Observations:
The teacher assigned students lab groups according to their seat placements in class. Walking to the lab most of the students where respectful of other students that were in their classrooms learning by being quit in the hallway. As the students became further away from the teacher that was leading the class a few where extremely talkative and you could see that students in other classrooms where be distractive by them. Once in the lab all students when to their lab benches and waited for instruction. After instruction was given they all got to work. In most of the groups all the students were very much into the lab, but there was a few that just sat back and let their group do all the work. I watched on students flirt with another for at least ten min. The teacher was walking around trying to get the students that weren't doing anything by asking them question so a least she knew that they knew what was going on. I would have to say that most students were very involved and like to the lab. At the end of the period she made sure that there was enough time so that all of the students cleaned their lab bench area and had the lab set up for the next class that was coming in.
Reflections:
I liked the way that she set up the lab groups. She had already made the seating chart into groups of students that would work hard together and not waste time talking to friends. When it came time to leave the class and walk to the lab, she did what she had to. She had to get to the lab first and unlock the door to let the students in. She asked the studetn to be quit in the hall and i would of had the same approach. With the kids that weren't on task she tried to get to them quick but there is only one of here and 8 groups, she was trying her best, you can't be at more then one place at a time. I would have tried facial signals like staring at the kid to get their attention and lip talk to him to get to work while i was listening to another group. Making sure there was enough time for the students to clean up and have the lab ready for the next class is huge. So the next period you don't have to waste time setting up the lab and just get right to work.
